KB N° 2682: USING THE SOCKS PROXY
How to use the SOCKS proxy of the Olfeo solution.
Objective
How to use the SOCKS proxy of the Olfeo solution.
Context
SOCKS is a network protocol that enables client-server applications to transparently use the services of a proxy. Support for the protocol in client applications is a prerequisite for using a proxy of this type.
Most applications let you choose which SOCKS proxy version to use:
- or SOCKS4,
- or SOCKS5, which extends the previous version by adding the ability to transmitUDP, authentication, domain name resolution by the SOCKS server itself, and IPv6.
SOCKS5 is generally the recommended choice.
Steps
Configuring your Olfeo solution
- From the webadmin interface > Proxy Cache QoS > SOCKS > Configuration
- Click on the (+) button to add a new proxy
- Create a[label] named SOCKS Tunnel, specify[port] 8080 and confirm.
Firefox client browser configuration example

In the window that opens, check Manual proxy configuration, then enter the proxy IP address and port in the corresponding SOCKS field.
