KB 2626: Presence of unknown users in statistics

Users are not recognized in real-time statistics. No identifiers are displayed, or the identifier is preceded by "Unknown user."

Symptom

Users are not recognized in real-time statistics. There are no logins displayed, or the login is preceded by "Unknown user."

Tests

Here is a list of factors that may affect user authentication:

  1. The user directory
  2. The authentication mode inSettings>HTTP Proxy>Authentication(orQoS Cache Proxy>HTTP>Authentication)
  3. The method for applying the proxy on client workstations
  4. Third-party equipment at Olfeo that does not return user information.

The User Directory is not synchronized correctly

  • Verify that the user is properly synchronized in the directory by looking in Administration > Users > Directories.
  • Try resynchronizing the directory inSettings>Authentication> the directory of your choice >Synchronize groups, thenSynchronize users.

Authentication mode

Verify that an authentication method is set up inSettings>HTTP Proxy>Authentication(orQoS Cache Proxy>HTTP>Authentication). (Example: NTLM, Kerberos, Basic).

If necessary, set up an authentication method so that users are recognized.

Method for applying the proxy on client workstations

  • Verify that the client computer is properly connecting through the proxy, either through a proxy.pac file or through an explicit or transparent proxy.
  • Verify that your GPO applies the desired proxy settings to Internet Explorer.

Third-party equipment at Olfeo does not send user information.

Check the configuration of your third-party equipment to see if it sends user information.
